AUTHORITIES have intensified investigations into what appears to be a sophisticated syndicate of foreign domestic helpers accused of using their access to private residences to subject young children to sexual grooming and physical abuse.

New Straits Times, on Saturday, reported that investigators believe these operations specifically target vulnerable toddlers and pre-linguistic children, while older victims are allegedly intimidated into silence to ensure the illicit activities remain undetected.

The gravity of the situation was brought to light by expatriate families who discovered their children had fallen victim to predatory behaviour while under the care of trusted employees.

One mother, referred to as Matilda, described the moment her life was upended two years ago after receiving a series of distressed messages and video recordings.

The footage, captured via spyware installed on her maid’s mobile phone by a jealous partner, revealed the presence of an unknown male individual in the family apartment.

“I started shaking when I opened the first video clip and saw that it was that of our apartment and children. We did not even finish the clip before rushing to confront my maid,” Matilda said.

The domestic worker initially claimed her device had been hacked and expressed fear for her own safety.

However, a full review of the recordings later revealed that the couple’s two-year-old son had been sexually abused.

The discovery provided a harrowing explanation for the toddler’s sudden psychological decline and erratic behaviour, which the maid had previously dismissed as a reaction to loud music.

“Our maid was only occasionally alone with our son, so we did not suspect any wrongdoing at first. However, since he began therapy, there have been multiple disclosures of sexual and physical abuse implicating her.”

“When we raised concerns about our son's change in behaviour, the maid offered explanations for his fears and anxiety. At one point, she attributed it to loud lion dance music,” Matilda explained.

Therapy sessions further uncovered the extent of the grooming process.

Matilda noted that her son had been taught songs about oral sex and spoke of a shower party where he was the only child among a group of adults.

The boy also made references to having online friends and exhibited violent outbursts, once attempting to strangle his mother.

“He had songs. He had songs about oral sex… It was trained. This was grooming,” she said.

The maid had been employed by the family for only twelve weeks at the time the abuse was uncovered.

Despite the woman providing positive references and undergoing a formal visa sponsorship, Matilda discovered after the dismissal that the employee was allegedly involved in a series of intimate encounters and suspicious activities within the local area.

“We loved her and appreciated how well she cared for our children — in front of us. We never imagined something like this was possible. If we had not seen the evidence for ourselves, we would not have believed it. The monsters don't seem like monsters,” she added.

Following a police report and a coordinated manhunt involving both Malaysian and international enforcement agencies, the suspect was arrested and remanded after two years at large.

Police confirmed that the case remains under active investigation. - February 21, 2026
