A COLLISION on the southbound stretch of the North–South Expressway caused a severe 17-kilometre traffic jam this afternoon, slowing motorists travelling from Pedas Linggi towards Simpang Ampat as authorities worked to remove the wreckage.

The Malaysian Highway Authority reported that the crash, which occurred at approximately 3.09pm near KM218.0, left the left lane blocked.

This forced traffic diversions and resulted in a lengthy line of vehicles stretching across the busy interstate route.

“Work to clear the obstructed lanes is ongoing, and road users are urged to drive carefully when approaching the location,” the authority said in a statement.

Motorists heading towards Simpang Ampat were advised to follow on-site directions and consider alternative routes where possible. Traffic is expected to return to normal only once all vehicles involved in the accident have been removed and the lane fully reopened.

The authority reminded drivers to exercise patience and caution while travelling through the affected area, noting that clearance operations are still in progress. - February 22, 2026
