POLICE in Kedah have not ruled out the possibility that the two men who fired shots at the car of the Bukit Kayu Hitam Border Control and Protection Agency (MCBA) commander were hired by a criminal syndicate.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah told reporters that authorities are exploring all angles in the investigation.
“We cannot dismiss the possibility that the suspects were commissioned by a syndicate to carry out this act. Investigations are ongoing and we are examining all aspects,” he said.
The incident occurred at 5.40am when Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin M Nasir, the MCBA commander at Bukit Kayu Hitam, was on his way to the mosque for Subuh prayers.
His Proton X70 vehicle was reportedly struck by two gunshots.
It was earlier reported that the preliminary motive appears to be intimidation against enforcement officers, with suspicions that certain individuals, dissatisfied with the authorities’ recent successes in seizures, orchestrated the attack.
Despite the shots fired, Mohd Nasaruddin emerged uninjured, with the bullets failing to strike him.
Police are continuing their hunt for the unidentified assailants while investigating whether the attack was linked to broader criminal networks.
“The commander survived the shooting, and no injuries were sustained,” Adzli confirmed, stressing that authorities remain vigilant as the investigation unfolds. - February 25, 2026
