SACKED Bersatu MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal said he and leaders of several political youth wings are prepared to stand up to any Muslim leader who attempts to demolish houses of worship outside the boundaries of the law.
In a clip on Instagram, the Machang MP stated that youth movements from parties including PAS, Bersatu and Gerakan would oppose such actions if they occur.
“We will confront any Muslim leader who demolishes temples, shrines, churches or any house of worship beyond the limits of the country’s laws,” he said, adding that oppression against non-Muslims and non-Malays must not be tolerated.
He stressed that Islam strictly forbids the destruction of houses of worship belonging to other faiths, even during times of war, describing such acts as haram under Islamic teachings.
Wan Ahmad Fayhsal cited the destruction of the Bamiyan Buddha statues in Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2001 as an example that contradicts Islamic principles.
“Muslims are forbidden from demolishing any house of worship. Even in war, it is haram to do so. What happened in Bamiyan is an anomaly and goes against Islamic principles,” he said.
He added that respecting the rights of non-Muslims and protecting their places of worship is consistent with both Islamic values and Malaysia’s legal framework in safeguarding religious harmony.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions in Malaysia regarding religious harmony and the protection of minority rights within the nation’s multi-ethnic and multi-religious society. – March 7, 2026
