A MAN was killed after the car he was driving caught fire following a three-vehicle collision near a warehouse along Jalan Lama Yong Peng–Ayer Hitam in Batu Pahat late on Sunday night.

Emergency services were alerted to the incident at 11.38pm, prompting firefighters from the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia station in Yong Peng to dispatch a team of five personnel together with a Fire Rescue Tender and an Emergency Medical Rescue Services unit to the scene.

Operations commander Ahmad Rafidi Ramli said rescuers found that the crash involved a Toyota Vios, a Perodua Bezza and a Nissan Sentra, with five people in total caught up in the accident.

“Upon the arrival of the operations team at the scene, we found that the accident involved a Toyota Vios, Perodua Bezza and Nissan Sentra, with five victims in total.

“As a result of the collision, the Toyota Vios was burned about 80 per cent.

“An adult male in the car was removed by members of the public before the vehicle caught fire, but he was confirmed dead by a medical officer who arrived at the scene,” he said in a statement.

The 33-year-old female driver of the Perodua Bezza escaped unharmed, while the driver of the Nissan Sentra, a 65-year-old man, was trapped in his vehicle and sustained injuries.

Firefighters used specialised rescue equipment to extricate the elderly driver. Two male passengers travelling in the same car survived the crash.

“Victims who sustained injuries were handed over to the Ministry of Health for further action,” Ahmad Rafidi said. - March 9, 2026
