ENFORCEMENT officers from the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) are now using body-worn cameras (BWC) during operations at Ramadan and Syawal bazaars, the authority said, in a bid to improve safety and accountability.
In a statement, DBKL explained that the cameras are intended to ensure that every enforcement action is carried out professionally, transparently, and with integrity, while also protecting both officers and the public.
"The use of these devices is aimed at ensuring every enforcement action is executed professionally, transparently and with integrity, while safeguarding the safety of officers and the public.
"Recordings can also serve as evidence in the event of an incident, helping to reduce disputes during enforcement operations," the statement posted on Facebook today read.
DBKL said the cameras will be used in a range of situations, including patrolling bazaar areas, checking vendor licences, interacting with members of the public, and during the execution of enforcement duties.
"We are committed to ensuring that all enforcement operations are carried out transparently, professionally, and respectfully, for the welfare of city residents," the statement added.
The introduction of body-worn cameras reflects a broader push to increase transparency and accountability in municipal enforcement, especially in crowded, high-traffic areas during major festive seasons. - March 10, 2026
