MELAKA Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, confirmed that the State Election (PRN) is expected to be held within six months from now, following the 15th State Legislative Assembly (DUN) term, which will end on December 30.

He said that the state election still needs to be held this year because it is a democratic process that is set according to the current administration's term.

He said that the state government is currently focusing on the administration and development of the state before entering the election period at the end of this year.

"Our last date (for this term) is December 30, and it (PRN) will certainly be held before that date," he said.

The Melaka PRN was previously held on November 20, 2021, following the dissolution of the DUN after a political crisis that caused the state government led by Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali at the time to lose majority support.

In the election, a total of 28 state seats were contested, involving the participation of major parties including Barisan Nasional (BN), Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Perikatan Nasional (PN).

The results of the PRN saw BN achieve a huge victory when it won 21 state seats, thus forming the state government with a two-thirds majority, followed by PH (five seats) while PN won two seats.

BN's huge victory at that time paved the way for the formation of a new state government, which was later led by Ab Rauf as the 13th Chief Minister of Melaka. – March 14, 2026
