THE Terengganu government is still in the process of assessing the need for the implementation of the Work From Home (BDR) policy involving civil servants in the state, following the current economic situation.
Its Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, said a detailed assessment needs to be carried out since the environmental factors in the state are far different compared to the Klang Valley.
According to him, among the main factors taken into account are the issue of road congestion, which indirectly affects the consumption of petrol.
"We are still assessing whether there is a need because the atmosphere in the Klang Valley is not the same as the atmosphere in the state of Terengganu.
Most of the time in the Klang Valley is spent on the road, with hours of traffic jams and so on.
"That has an impact on the use of petrol fuel, which is quite critical in the coming time," he said when met after the inauguration of the 5th International Ijtimak Perpaduan Ummah, which was held at the State Sports Complex, today.
Commenting on the possibility of implementing WFH at the state level, he said that although the congestion situation is not very significant in Terengganu, his party will still examine whether there is a need to implement WFH.
"That atmosphere does not really exist in the state of Terengganu, but we will assess, and we will see if there is a need for 'work from home'.
"We are assessing, we have not made a decision at the meeting level yet," he explained.
Meanwhile, he also informed about participating in a special meeting called by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the current economic situation and the steps that need to be taken by the government.
He said the state government has an important role in addressing the economic pressure that the people are currently facing.
"We are also taking steps on the state side that I will not detail today. We are still assessing the biggest impact on the state government.
"Of course, we will mobilise with all parties, including the private sector and the Federation, to work together so that the impact of economic pressure on the people can be minimised," he said. – April 4, 2026
