POLICE have ruled out foul play in the death of a 53-year-old cleaning worker at a bowling centre in Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), confirming the case as a sudden death following a post-mortem examination.
Muallim district police chief Superintendent Khalid Mohamad said initial investigations found no signs of criminal activity or suspicious injuries, with the case classified as a sudden death report.
The victim, identified as Mohd Radzi Ariffin, was found unconscious in a locked utility room at the university’s bowling arena in the early hours of Tuesday.
Post-mortem findings confirmed that the cause of death was sudden cardiac arrest.
Police received an alert via the NG999 emergency system at approximately 1.57am, prompting officers to rush to the scene, where personnel from the Health Ministry and Fire and Rescue Department were already present.
“Medical personnel administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 15 minutes before the victim was pronounced dead at 2.23am,” Khalid said in a statement.
The body was subsequently sent to Hospital Slim River for a post-mortem examination.
Khalid urged the public to refrain from speculation that could disrupt investigations and to respect the privacy of the victim’s family.
In a separate statement, UPSI extended its condolences to the family and said it would assist with funeral arrangements following the completion of post-mortem procedures.
“Allahyarham was an employee of a private company operating within the university’s bowling facility,” the statement said.
Following the post-mortem, the deceased was taken to Masjid Al-Mursyidin at the UPSI Sultan Azlan Shah Campus for funeral prayers before being laid to rest at the Hulu Bernam Islamic Cemetery. - April 7, 2026
