THE implementation of the work-from-home (WFH) policy, which will begin on Wednesday, involves up to 200,000 civil servants subject to the qualifications and consideration of their respective departments.
Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, said the existing system is capable of accommodating the number, but not all civil servants will be approved to participate in the implementation.
"Although the system can support up to 200,000 users at a time, not all civil servants are eligible.
"The selection will be made based on several factors, and the approval also depends on the respective heads of departments," he said.
Shamsul Azri said that the implementation of the WFH would be done in a controlled manner to ensure that public service delivery was not affected.
He said that each department was given the authority to assess operational needs before approving WFH applications among officers.
"This is important to ensure that the balance between service needs and the welfare of civil servants continues to be maintained," he added.
The media previously reported that civil servants in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Selangor, as well as all state capitals with a one-way travel distance from office to home of more than eight kilometres were allowed WFH.
The implementation of WFH for three days a week for the civil service is following the West Asian conflict.
However, the implementation of WFH is exempted for three sectors involving security and defence, health and education. – April 14, 2026
