A SUSPENDED police officer known as “Inspector Sheila” will face trial in December after her attempt to overturn a charge of obstructing a fellow officer was rejected, clearing the way for full court proceedings.
The Magistrates’ Court set Dec 1 and 2 for the hearing following confirmation that the Attorney-General’s Chambers had dismissed a representation submitted by the accused, Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, 38.
Magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin fixed the dates after being informed by deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh of the outcome.
“The full trial has been set for two days on Dec 1 and 2,” said Aina Azahra.
Sheila is accused of deliberately obstructing Lance Corporal Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, while he was conducting a crime prevention patrol outside a restaurant along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Dang Wangi between 8.15pm and 8.30pm on Nov 4 last year.
The charge is brought under Section 186 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both upon conviction.
Represented by lawyer M Manoharan, the accused is expected to contest the allegations at trial.
The case arises from a confrontation in which she allegedly challenged the officer’s knowledge of the law, mocked police actions and accused him of threatening a Pakistani motorcyclist.
Sheila has been suspended from duty since June 23, 2023, amid a series of controversies, including claims that she had insulted a police officer and threatened an elderly woman.
The upcoming proceedings are set to scrutinise both the incident in question and the broader conduct of the accused in relation to her obligations as a law enforcement officer. - May 4, 2026
