A TEENAGE girl seeking treatment at a hospital due to bleeding revealed that she and her boyfriend had attempted to abort her five-month-old pregnancy by allegedly taking pills.

Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the incident on April 25 was uncovered after police received a report from a medical officer at the Melaka Hospital at 6.50 pm.

The 17-year-old 10-month-old patient arrived covered in blood and was believed to have been bleeding after taking abortion pills, in addition to facing complications when the uterus failed to fully expel.

Further investigation found that the teenager and her 18-year-old boyfriend were planning to abort the pregnancy by taking pills.

"After the incident, the man involved is believed to have taken the fetus from the teenager's house and planned to bury it behind his house.

"However, the fetus was first hidden in a car," he said as reported by Berita Harian.

He added that, acting on information, a team of policemen arrested the male suspect at 11.40 pm on the same day to assist in the investigation.

"The teenage girl involved was arrested yesterday at 3.15 pm as soon as she was released from the hospital," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 318 Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of up to two years or a fine or both if convicted.

The investigation papers have been referred to the Melaka State Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office, and instructions have been obtained to charge the male suspect under Section 318 of the Penal Code (KK), while the female suspect under Section 315.

Under Section 318, which covers the concealment of a birth by secretly disposing of a body, the male suspect faces a penalty of up to two years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.

Section 315 of the Penal Code relates to acts done with the intent to prevent a child from being born alive or to cause its death after birth. This offence carries a penalty of up to 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Both suspects are scheduled to be charged this Friday. – May 6, 2026
