A 14-YEAR-OLD girl suspected of being under the influence of 'mushroom' vape slashed her neck and wrists after being prevented by her adoptive mother from meeting her boyfriend at a house in Jonker Walk, Melaka.
Melaka Police Chief, Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar, said the incident at 10.33 pm last Sunday was believed to have occurred after the victim became angry when her 49-year-old adoptive mother prevented her from meeting her 17-year-old boyfriend.
He said the victim then went into a bedroom on the first floor of the house, before injuring herself with a knife.
"The victim's adoptive mother claimed that the teenager was in a state of stress and believed to be under the influence of 'mushroom' vape before the incident.
"The victim was then sent to the Melaka Hospital for treatment in the Yellow Zone of the Emergency Unit before being reported stable," he said in a statement today.
He said that investigations also found that the teenager began to be exposed to the use of the vape after being introduced by her boyfriend, who is also a Form Four student, in February.
He said that the victim's adoptive mother had also confiscated the vape to prevent her from continuing to use it, while investigations also found that the substance was believed to have been supplied by the victim's boyfriend.
"Further investigations are still being conducted against all individuals involved, including the adoptive mother and the household residents aged 14 to 17.
"The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001 because it is believed that there was an element of negligence towards the victim. If convicted, the individual involved can be sentenced to imprisonment for up to 10 years or a maximum fine of RM20,000 or both," he said.
It was earlier reported that the victim was receiving treatment at the Melaka Hospital after being found with a cut on her neck in a house around Banda Hilir.
State Health, Human Resources and Unity Exco, Datuk Ngwe Hee Sem, reportedly said that the teenager involved is currently in a stable condition and is still being monitored by the medical team. – May 28, 2026
