THE Government is intensifying efforts to elevate technical and vocational education as a mainstream career pathway, with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim set to officiate the National TVET Day 2026 celebration at Dataran Putrajaya today.
The event, which runs for three days under the theme "TVET, The Preferred Career Path", reflects the government's broader ambition to produce a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving economy driven by technology, innovation and industrial transformation.
Bernama reported that Anwar is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at 10am before officially launching the nationwide celebration, which organisers expect will attract up to 500,000 visitors over the course of the programme.
The gathering brings together more than 107 government agencies, educational institutions and industry players, showcasing the growing collaboration between policymakers, training providers and employers in shaping Malaysia's future workforce.
Participants represent nine strategic sectors considered vital to the country's long-term economic competitiveness, including aerospace, electronics and digital technology, advanced manufacturing, transportation and automotive industries, agriculture, energy, rail services, maritime operations and the broader services sector.
The celebration has been designed not only as a public exhibition of skills and career opportunities but also as a platform to strengthen links between industry and education, ensuring training programmes remain aligned with real-world labour market demands.
Running daily from 9am to 10pm, the event features six dedicated hubs covering institutional and industrial engagement, TVET-focused seminars, career and employment opportunities, entrepreneurship development, skills competitions and educational entertainment activities.
The government views TVET as a key pillar in addressing future workforce challenges, particularly as industries increasingly adopt advanced technologies and require workers equipped with specialised technical competencies.
National TVET Day is observed annually on 2 June to recognise the contribution of technical and vocational education and training to Malaysia's human capital development agenda.
Under the Malaysia MADANI framework, the government has continued to expand and strengthen TVET programmes, placing greater emphasis on industry relevance, technological adaptation and workforce readiness as the nation seeks to enhance productivity and maintain its competitive edge in the global economy.
The celebration is expected to serve as a showcase of Malaysia's commitment to transforming perceptions of vocational education while encouraging more young Malaysians to view technical skills as a pathway to high-value careers and long-term economic opportunity. - June 6, 2026
