TIMOR-LESTE President Jose Ramos-Horta has commenced a five-day official visit to Malaysia, with a programme centred on diplomatic engagement, intellectual exchange and efforts to strengthen relations between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Ramos-Horta arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Friday at 11.12am aboard a commercial flight, accompanied by members of his official delegation.
The visit is expected to feature a series of high-profile engagements involving government leaders, academics and foreign policy practitioners, reflecting growing cooperation between Malaysia and Timor-Leste at a time of increasing regional and global challenges.
A key highlight of the visit will take place on June 15, when Ramos-Horta participates in a public dialogue session at Taylor’s University entitled “A Changing World, Enduring Values”, where discussions are expected to focus on leadership, international affairs and the evolving global order.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will host an official luncheon on Sunday in honour of the Timorese leader at the Seri Perdana Complex, signalling the continued importance both governments place on bilateral relations and regional collaboration.
Ramos-Horta is also scheduled to attend a book launch and deliver a distinguished lecture organised by the Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, where he is expected to share insights on diplomacy, conflict resolution, international cooperation and global governance.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate, widely recognised for his role in Timor-Leste’s struggle for independence and his long-standing involvement in international diplomacy, remains one of the region’s most prominent statesmen.
His visit comes as Timor-Leste continues to deepen engagement with regional partners and advance its broader international agenda, including closer cooperation with fellow Southeast Asian nations.
Ramos-Horta is scheduled to conclude his visit and return to Dili on June 17. - June 13, 2026
