A DISPUTE over seating at a school canteen escalated into violence when a Form One student allegedly choked a classmate from behind, leaving the victim requiring hospital treatment and prompting disciplinary action by school authorities.
Cheras District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Rosdi Daud confirmed that police received a report on 16 April regarding a physical altercation involving two male Form One students.
Investigations found that the incident occurred in front of the school's cooperative store and stemmed from a disagreement between the victim and the suspect over seating arrangements in the canteen.
"The suspect acted by choking the victim's neck from behind while also verbally provoking the victim.
"Following the incident, the victim was referred to Hospital Canselor Tuanku Muhriz (HCTM), Cheras for medical treatment on the same day," he said in a statement on Friday.
Rosdi said the school had taken disciplinary action against the suspect after a committee meeting involving police, school officials and the students' guardians was held on 20 April.
"The suspect was issued with a formal warning and suspended from school by the school management.
"Police advise all parties not to engage in speculation that could interfere with investigations and to leave the matter entirely to the authorities for further action," he said. - June 19, 2026
