JASIN Member of Parliament, Zulkifli Ismail, and his wife were involved in an accident at the Jelatang traffic light intersection on Lebuh Alor Gajah-Melaka Tengah-Jasin (AMJ), early this morning.

In the incident at about 5.52 am, Zulkifli, 60, suffered injuries to both hands while his wife, Zarina Rethian, complained of chest pain after the Nissan Teana they were travelling in was hit by a Perodua Axia.

It is understood that this is the second accident experienced by Zulkifli after the first incident occurred in Jasin six days ago.

Alor Gajah District Police Chief, Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar, said that the accident also resulted in the driver of the Perodua Axia, a 30-year-old woman, suffering broken ribs and a hip bone before being rushed to the Melaka Hospital for treatment.

He said that also injured were three female passengers who were in the vehicle, each suffering wounds to the face, shoulder, stomach and leg.

Initial investigations found that the accident occurred at the Jelatang traffic light intersection, which connects the main road to Lebuh AMJ.

“At the time of the incident, the Nissan Teana driven by Zulkifli was travelling from the direction of Rembia towards the Simpang Ampat Toll.

“Upon arriving at the Jelatang traffic light intersection and passing the green light, a Perodua Axia coming from the direction of Alor Gajah towards Gadek is believed to have hit the left front of the Nissan Teana,” he said in a statement today.

Ahmad said the police had recorded Zulkifli’s statement, in addition to conducting inspections at the scene of the incident and the hospital.

“Both vehicles were taken to the Alor Gajah Traffic Police Station for further inspection, and no dashboard camera recordings were obtained from the vehicles involved. Efforts are underway to locate independent witnesses who saw the incident,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Road Transport Act 1987. – June 20, 2026
