BANGLADESHI Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, who is on a visit to Malaysia, was given an official welcome at the Perdana Putra Building today.

Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, welcomed his counterpart's arrival at 9 am, before the national anthems of both countries were played.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and members of the Cabinet.

Tarique then inspected the Guard of Honour consisting of 103 members and three officers from the 1st Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment led by Major Nur Ahmad Zaim Zahari.

The two leaders are expected to discuss the development of Malaysia-Bangladesh bilateral relations and explore further cooperation, specifically in key sectors including trade and investment, human resource management, semiconductors, energy, agriculture, and education, as well as exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

The two leaders will also witness the exchange of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural Cooperation, as well as two Exchanges of Diplomatic Notes (EoN) in the areas of Counter-Terrorism Research and Investment Promotion and Facilitation.

In 2025, the total trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh reached RM12.18 billion (US$2.84 billion).

Malaysia's total exports to Bangladesh amounted to RM10.08 billion (US$2.35 billion), with petroleum products being the main items.

Total imports from Bangladesh amounted to RM2.1 billion (US$500,000) and were largely contributed by textiles, clothing and footwear.

Bangladesh is Malaysia's 28th largest trading partner with a total trade of RM12.18 billion.

Bangladesh is also Malaysia's second largest trading partner, export destination and import source in the South Asian region after India. – June 22, 2026
