PERIKATAN Nasional (PN) has expanded its political alliance by formally admitting Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) and Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM) as new member parties, following an emergency meeting of the coalition's Supreme Council on Monday night.

The decision was announced by PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who said the coalition unanimously approved both applications during the meeting held at PAS headquarters.

"Regarding PN membership, the meeting agreed to approve two political parties to join PN.

"The meeting received two applications and approved the membership of PEJUANG and PCM," he told a press conference after the meeting.

Ahmad Samsuri said the emergency session began at 9.30pm and concluded at approximately 11.30pm.

Asked whether the coalition had also considered an application from Parti Wawasan Negara, he replied that the matter was not discussed.

The announcement came shortly after Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin dismissed speculation that the emergency meeting had been convened to determine Bersatu's future within the opposition coalition.

Instead, Muhyiddin said the discussions centred exclusively on applications for new membership.

"There was no discussion (on Bersatu's status). We discussed the membership issue (of a new party)," he said after the meeting.

Muhyiddin was responding to questions over reports that Bersatu's position within Perikatan Nasional might be under review.

The emergency meeting had drawn widespread attention following reports that the coalition's leadership would deliberate on issues relating to PN's composition.

According to a notice dated June 18 and signed by PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, the meeting was convened under Clause 10, governing meeting notices and agendas, and Clause 12, relating to the frequency of meetings under the coalition's constitution.

When further asked whether Bersatu intended to remain in Perikatan Nasional or was considering leaving the coalition, Muhyiddin responded with humour, dismissing the speculation.

"Bersatu will remain and endure forever."

The outcome of the meeting signals that Perikatan Nasional is prioritising organisational expansion ahead of future electoral contests, while coalition leaders sought to dispel rumours of internal divisions by confirming that no discussion took place regarding Bersatu's status within the alliance. - June 23, 2026
