FORMER Chief Justice Tun Mohamed Eusoff Chin passed away on Friday (Aug 7) at the age of 90.
His daughter, Zuliana, confirmed the death in a statement, saying her father passed away at 1am.
She said funeral prayers would be held at Masjid Al-Hidayat in Kelana Jaya.
Born in Batu Gajah, Perak, Mohamed Eusoff served as Chief Justice of Malaysia from 1999 to 2000, overseeing the judiciary during a significant period at the turn of the millennium.
He began his career in 1955 as a teacher before pursuing legal studies in London.
In 1963, he was called to the Bar at Lincoln’s Inn, London, where he qualified as an advocate and solicitor.
He subsequently joined the Judicial and Legal Service, embarking on a long and distinguished legal career that saw him hold several key positions, including Magistrate, Sessions Court President, Deputy Public Prosecutor, Assistant Registrar, Legal Advisor, Parliamentary Draftsman, High Court Judge of Malaya and President of the Court of Appeal.
His rise through the judicial ranks culminated in his appointment as Chief Justice, making him the country’s highest-ranking judicial officer from 1999 to 2000. - August 7, 2026
