A CHILDMINDER has been remanded for three days to assist police investigations into the death of an 11-month-old baby girl who died at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) on Thursday morning, following four days of treatment after an incident at a home in Taman Permaipura, Bedong.

Magistrate Muhammad Syaiful Akmal Mohamad Razi granted the remand application against the woman, aged in her 30s, effective from Friday until Sunday.

Police had earlier confirmed that the suspect was detained after being called in to assist investigations into the infant’s death while under her care.

It is understood that the baby girl died at 10.42am on Thursday while receiving treatment at HSB in Alor Setar.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the infant’s father received a call from the babysitter at 2.15pm on Monday informing him that the child had fallen from a chair while being fed and had lost consciousness.

The victim was the only child of a couple who both work at a private hospital in the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 31 of the Child Act 2001, which relates to child neglect and abuse. - June 26, 2026
