CONTROVERSIAL businessman Albert Tei says he is on the verge of entering frontline politics, revealing that he is considering contesting the Negeri Sembilan state election on 1 August after receiving an offer from a political party.

Tei, whose full name is Tei Jiaan Cheing, said discussions were at an advanced stage and that he expected to announce his decision next week.

"There is a party that has offered me the opportunity to contest and I am still considering it, but it is almost certain.

"Many of my friends and followers on social media have also encouraged me to stand in this election. I may announce my decision next week," the 37-year-old businessman said.

Although he declined to identify the party, Tei said he intends to contest the Chennah state constituency, currently held by DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

He said his decision to enter the race was driven by dissatisfaction with the leadership of Pakatan Harapan and DAP, which he claimed had failed to fulfil promises made to the public.

"I have never been a member of any political party because everything I have fought for has been in my personal capacity.

"But the Negeri Sembilan state election may become my first step into politics," said Tei, who is from Kuantan, Pahang.

Anthony has already confirmed that he will defend the Chennah seat in the upcoming state election.

He first won Chennah in Malaysia's 13th General Election with a majority of 1,098 votes after polling 5,128 votes to defeat the Barisan Nasional candidate.

In the 2023 Negeri Sembilan state election, Loke retained the seat with an increased majority of 2,200 votes after securing 5,888 votes against a Perikatan Nasional challenger.

Before representing Chennah, Loke served as the state assemblyman for Lobak. - July 2, 2026
