THE results of the recently concluded Johor State Election (PRN) prove that the unification of the Malays can restore their political strength.
Former Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said that although the form of political cooperation currently in place is still unclear in terms of its structure and ties, it should be accepted as a step towards strengthening the political strength of the Malays.
"The recently concluded Johor State Election shows that when the Malays unite, political strength will return to us.
"Although the form of cooperation is still vague in terms of form and ties, we must accept it as a step towards effectiveness in strengthening the political strength of the Malays," he said in a statement today.
Earlier, the results of the 16th Johor state election which took place last Saturday saw Barisan Nasional (BN) achieve a huge victory when it won 48 out of 56 state assembly seats (DUN), while Pakatan Harapan (PH) won eight seats.
Dr Mahathir said that the unification was not intended to defend falsehood or do bad things, but rather should be utilised to elevate the dignity of the Malays, the Islamic religion and the sovereignty of the country.
According to him, the resulting political strength was also not to suppress or deny the rights and interests of other races.
"It gives the Malays confidence to fight for the interests of their race without questioning the rights of other races.
"This is the way we have been holding on since the country achieved independence and it has succeeded in prospering the Malays and other races.
"Therefore, the Malays need to unite and strengthen their political strength. Only this way will our homeland remain our right," he said. – July 15, 2026
