POLICE are investigating whether certain communities or groups may have contributed to the actions of a female student accused of stabbing her schoolmate at a secondary school in Banting, Kuala Langat, earlier this month.
Selangor Police Chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the investigation includes examining the possible influence of online groups or communities following the arrest of a 14-year-old female teenager, who was later released after police found no involvement between her and the case.
"The investigation is to determine whether there were communities or groups that became a factor behind why the suspect acted in such a manner.
"This may involve friends discussing matters within a WhatsApp chat group or exchanging views and suggestions that could have encouraged the suspect to act in such a way (stabbing her friend until seriously injured).
"This does not involve individuals from the same school," he told a press conference at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) on Tuesday.
Shazeli said police were also conducting an internal investigation into the circulation of notes believed to have been written by the suspect and shared on social media.
He said the notes formed part of the case exhibits, and their dissemination on social media required further investigation by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM).
Meanwhile, Shazeli said the victim, who was seriously injured after being stabbed in the incident on July 6, is recovering and was discharged from hospital on July 13.
"Alhamdulillah, the victim is undergoing an improving recovery process with her family at their home," he said.
Earlier reports stated that a 15-year-old female student was injured after she was allegedly stabbed 16 times by a schoolmate while she was about to sit down after purchasing bread at a secondary school in Banting, Kuala Langat.
The accused, also aged 15, was charged at the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court with attempted murder under Section 307 of the Penal Code and was ordered to undergo psychiatric assessment and treatment for one month at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta, Perak. - July 21, 2026
