BERSATU president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has hit back at UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin over remarks that his party is contesting the Negeri Sembilan state election merely to "kacau daun" (spoiler or third party trying to disrupt), saying the comments were unbecoming of a senior politician and failed to reflect Bersatu's political credentials.
Addressing reporters after attending a community engagement programme at Taman Sri Pulai on Wednesday night, Muhyiddin said Khaled, who has served as a minister and remains a Cabinet member, should have displayed greater political maturity.
"This is a democratic system. Khaled is a politician who has been around for quite some time and is mature. He has served as a minister before and is still a minister. But what he said sounded like something from a child. It is as though we are rubbish, that we are worthless and have no experience," he said.
Muhyiddin was responding to Khaled's earlier remarks that Bersatu was merely "kacau daun" in the Negeri Sembilan election and his appeal to voters to ensure the party did not win a single seat.
The former prime minister challenged Khaled's assessment of Bersatu's standing, arguing that both he and the party possessed extensive administrative and governing experience.
He stressed that Bersatu had entered the election under the democratic process with the clear objective of winning seats rather than disrupting the prospects of rival parties.
"How much experience does Khaled have compared with mine, for example? Or compared with the experience of our party? We are not contesting this election just to 'kacau daun' or anything like that. We are contesting because we want to win. We can say it openly – we want to win. So do not belittle us (BERSATU)," he said.
Muhyiddin also urged political opponents to refrain from making derogatory remarks that undermine BERSATU's commitment and determination to contest the election seriously, saying every party had the democratic right to seek the people's mandate. - July 23, 2026
