POLICE will record statements from Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and an UMNO Rembau leader as part of investigations into separate statements made during the ongoing Negeri Sembilan state election campaign.
Negeri Sembilan Police Chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said investigators have already recorded statements from several witnesses and will summon both individuals in the coming days to complete their respective investigations.
He said the investigation involving Muhammad Sanusi was launched after police received two reports over remarks allegedly made during a campaign speech.
“As soon as the police received two reports regarding the statement made by Datuk Seri Sanusi, an investigation paper was opened under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“We have yet to record his statement and immediate action will be taken,” he said during a press conference after inspecting the early voting centre at the Nilai District Police Headquarters.
Alzafny said police had already obtained statements from several witnesses and were receiving assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in the investigation involving the PAS leader.
“To complete the investigation, we will record the Kedah Menteri Besar’s statement and try to resolve this case as soon as possible,” he said.
In a separate investigation involving an UMNO Rembau leader over remarks allegedly linking the Negeri Sembilan royal institution with a political party, Alzafny said police had received 11 reports as of Tuesday night.
He said an investigation paper had been opened under Section 4A(1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, as well as Section 505(b) of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
“Several statements from those who lodged reports and additional witnesses have already been recorded. We will summon this individual to continue the investigation,” he said.
Alzafny said MCMC assistance was also required for both cases, adding that police would work to complete the investigations as quickly as possible while the state election campaign is underway.
The investigations follow the circulation of campaign videos, including one involving Muhammad Sanusi that allegedly contained racially sensitive remarks, and another involving an UMNO Rembau leader who allegedly claimed that the Negeri Sembilan Palace had been influenced by the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
The Negeri Sembilan Palace has since dismissed the allegation as false and reminded all political parties not to involve the royal institution in election campaigns or political speeches. - July 28, 2026
