A QUICK response by the Kuala Terengganu district police chief saved a 14-year-old female student from an alleged suicide attempt at a secondary school here on Tuesday.
District police chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor spent about 10 minutes persuading the distressed teenager, who was believed to be holding a weapon, to abandon her intention to jump from the second floor of the school building.
After successfully calming the student, Azli approached her, held her hand and guided her to a safe location.
“The victim was then taken to the school rest room before being rushed to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for further treatment,” he said when contacted.
The student is understood to still be receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station Chief Thoiyibah Taib said the department received an emergency call at 9.33am, prompting the deployment of seven firefighters, a Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) and a utility vehicle to the scene.
She said firefighters found the student in an agitated state on the second floor of the school building while holding a weapon when they arrived.
According to her, initial information from the school indicated that the student had allegedly written about her intention to harm herself in an exercise book.
“Firefighters also assisted in calming the situation and stood by to provide support until the victim was successfully brought to a safe location before being handed over to health authorities for further action,” she said. - July 28, 2026
