POLICE have classified the death of a 54-year-old man at a care home in Tanjung Rambutan as murder after post-mortem findings confirmed he died from blunt force trauma to the head, with five people, including a caretaker, arrested in connection with the incident.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said forensic specialists at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun determined that the victim's death was caused by severe blunt force injuries to the head.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the incident is believed to have occurred on the night of Aug 3 after the victim, who was a resident of the care home, allegedly became aggressive and disturbed other occupants.
“A caretaker is believed to have instructed that the victim be tied up before several residents, together with the caretaker, assaulted and trampled on the victim. Five suspects have been arrested, including the caretaker and residents believed to have been involved in the incident.
“Detailed investigations are ongoing as the care home was also found to be operating without registration with either the Social Welfare Department (JKM) or the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM),” he said.
The victim was one of 21 residents living at the care home.
All five suspects have been remanded for four days, from Aug 5 to Aug 8, to facilitate investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
