PAS has been accused of deliberately diverting the discussion surrounding the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) by questioning the timing of its release rather than debating its findings.
Political Secretary to the Finance Minister Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim said the opposition party appeared more interested in challenging the timing of the disclosure instead of examining the issues raised in the report.
“PAS appears to continue with the culture of moving the goalposts. When the government presented the findings of the TH RCI recently, they were not interested in debating the contents of the report, but instead questioned why it was only disclosed now.
“If it had been disclosed earlier, perhaps they would have claimed it was rushed. This reflects the nature and quality of PAS as an opposition today, where the objective is not *tabayyun* (seeking clarification or truth), but simply to oppose,” he said in a Facebook post on Friday.
He was responding to questions raised by PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari over the government’s decision to disclose the TH RCI findings recently.
The Pasir Mas MP had also criticised the explanation that earlier disclosure could have affected investor confidence.
Muhammad Kamil, who is also PKR Youth chief, questioned when PAS believed would have been the appropriate time to release the findings if not now.
“Actually, when does Pasir Mas consider the right time? After the Sabah state election? Before the Johor state election? After the Negeri Sembilan state election concludes, or perhaps before Sarawak and after Melaka?” he asked.
“Perhaps they should simply wait until after the 16th General Election?” he added.
Muhammad Kamil said figures such as Ahmad Fadhli would continue expressing dissatisfaction regardless of when the report was released.
“We open one avenue, and they immediately open another, even though they know several arrests have already taken place and prosecutions against identified individuals will eventually be carried out,” he said.
He also sarcastically challenged Ahmad Fadhli to participate in parliamentary debates on the TH RCI report and present substantive arguments, as he had often done in the past.
He said the government had already explained that TH management itself had requested that the report not be disclosed immediately after the RCI due to concerns over possible implications for depositors’ confidence and the institution’s stability.
“Perhaps Pasir Mas does not fully understand how market sentiment and the investment world operate. The fact is that TH is now recovering, returning to profitability and its asset position has exceeded its liabilities.
“If Pasir Mas cannot dispute the facts, he should not play on the sentiments and emotions of the people,” he said.
Muhammad Kamil also criticised PAS over its previous stance on the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, claiming the party had changed its position when it became politically advantageous - August 7, 2026
