THE Government has not received any complaints so far from civil servants alleging that they had been pressured by politicians to become involved in political activities, says Public Service Department (PSD) director-general Tan Sri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.
He said the department was continuing to monitor the situation and believed civil servants understood the rules governing their conduct and responsibilities.
"To date, we have not received any complaints from civil servants who claim to have been pressured by politicians.
"I believe civil servants understand the rules that bind them when they are appointed to the public service and, God willing, this will not happen again," he said after attending the MAPPA XXI Run 2026 at Dataran Putrajaya today.
The run, officiated by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, attracted about 13,000 participants.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan’s remarks came after Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi last Thursday assured civil servants that the Government would protect those carrying out their duties professionally from any pressure arising from current political tensions.
Zahid had stressed that civil servants must continue performing their responsibilities in accordance with regulations and the proper legal channels.
Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the impact of the Hybrid Working Policy (HBH) would be assessed after one to three months, as the policy had only recently been introduced.
He said about 15,000 civil servants had been working under the HBH arrangement each day since it came into effect on Aug 1.
"The figure shows good initial acceptance of the implementation of a new work norm in the public service.
"The implementation period is still short, so the impact of HBH cannot yet be assessed comprehensively. We will look at it after one month or three months to obtain a clearer picture of its impact," he said.
The Cabinet had previously agreed to introduce HBH as a new norm in the public service, effective Aug 1.
Under the policy, civil servants may work from home or another location approved by their head of department for two days a week and from the office for three days, subject to service requirements, the suitability of their functions and prescribed conditions.
Wan Ahmad Dahlan said HBH replaced the Work From Home (WFH) arrangement previously introduced following the West Asia conflict.
"HBH does not have a specific implementation period because it is viewed as a new work norm in the public service.
"Hybrid working practices have long been implemented in several developed countries, including Singapore and the Scandinavian countries, with good results. I believe civil servants in this country are also capable of carrying out their responsibilities effectively under this hybrid working arrangement," he said. - August 8, 2026
