A MALAYSIAN pilot detained in Indonesia for allegedly smuggling more than 26kg of drugs is believed to have made several previous drug deliveries to different countries since 2024, police said.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the information emerged during questioning of the pilot by Malaysian investigators in Jakarta.

“He has been involved since 2024, with his role being to transport drugs out of the country to several destinations according to his flight schedule.

“This is not the first time, as he has made several drug deliveries to various countries,” he said when contacted.

Hussein said the pilot had also provided information on several drug syndicates operating in Malaysia and other countries, including Indonesia.

He said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would conduct further investigations into the syndicate members identified, including tracing financial flows linked to drug sales.

Information on the international syndicate networks would also be shared with drug enforcement agencies in the countries concerned, he said.

Meanwhile, investigations have found no indication of insider involvement at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA when the pilot passed through security checks.

“Questioning found no indication of insider involvement at KLIA.

“This means he acted alone when passing through the security checks, and this aspect needs to be examined further to determine how the drugs went undetected,” he said.

Hussein said PDRM was so far satisfied that there was no insider involvement in the process.

However, he declined to disclose the method allegedly used by the pilot to evade detection, saying this could compromise the investigation.

The pilot remains in the custody of the Indonesian National Police (POLRI) and will have to undergo legal proceedings in Indonesia, Hussein said.

On the possibility of the suspect being extradited to Malaysia, he said the matter involved arrangements between the two countries and declined to comment further.

Hussein also said investigations were still ongoing into the number of drug consignments allegedly transported by the pilot, their destination countries and the payments he had received since 2024.

Earlier, Hussein said a JSJN team had travelled to Jakarta to meet and question the pilot in a session initially scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday before being extended until Friday with POLRI’s approval.

He said the team received excellent cooperation from POLRI throughout the meetings, while the pilot also cooperated with the Malaysian investigators. - August 16, 2026
