MALAYSIA Airlines will adjust flight operations at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 this week to accommodate airspace restrictions for rehearsals and the official flypast marking Malaysia’s 69th National Day.
The national carrier said commercial arrivals and departures would be temporarily affected by the closure of airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area during scheduled aerial rehearsals and the National Day 2026 Flypast.
The adjustments come as Malaysians prepare for the National Day celebrations and the school holiday period from Aug 26 to Sept 6, when passenger traffic at KLIA is expected to increase.
Passengers whose flights are affected will be notified through their registered communication channels, while travellers are advised to monitor the latest flight information through Malaysia Airlines’ official digital platforms.
The temporary airspace restrictions are scheduled from 11am to noon from Aug 26 to 28, followed by further closures from 8.45am to 9.45am on Aug 29 and 31.
The timings coincide with full-dress rehearsals and the main National Day flypast.
Malaysia Airlines advised passengers departing from KLIA Terminal 1 to arrive at least four hours before their scheduled departure to allow additional time for check-in, immigration and security procedures.
The airline reminded passengers that check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure for both domestic and international flights, while boarding gates close 30 minutes before take-off.
Travellers have also been advised to expect longer processing times at airport facilities during the holiday period, with queues at check-in, immigration and security potentially exceeding 45 minutes.
Passengers are encouraged to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and ensure that their travel documents and any required entry documentation are in order.
The temporary operational changes are part of the arrangements to ensure the National Day flypast can proceed safely while minimising disruption to commercial air travel during one of Malaysia’s busiest holiday periods. - August 24, 2026
