A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding pillion on slammed into the rear of a lorry as it slowed to stop at a traffic light on Jalan Gurun-Jeniang in Gurun yesterday.

Kuala Muda district police chief Assistant Commissioner Hanyan Ramlan said the crash occurred at about 2pm and involved a lorry driven by a man and a motorcycle ridden by a 14-year-old boy with the victim as pillion passenger.

Preliminary investigations found that the lorry was moving slowly towards a stop after the traffic light turned red when an unidentified vehicle suddenly stopped in front of it.

“The driver of the lorry tried to avoid it by moving towards the left slip road before he heard a loud impact from the rear left side,” Hanyan said.

He said the lorry driver stopped to inspect the vehicle and found that the motorcycle carrying the two boys had crashed into its rear.

“The lorry driver found the child trapped beneath the rear tyre while the teenage rider had fallen onto the road,” he said.

The 12-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 14-year-old rider suffered minor abrasions to his hands and legs.

“The deceased suffered serious injuries to both sides of his body and thighs,” Hanyan said.

The victim was from Kampung Paya Mak Insun, Ayer Puteh, Pendang, while the motorcycle rider was from Kampung Batu 3, Jalan Jeniang.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. - September 4, 2026
