Haze: 40 areas record unhealthy API, Samarahan worst
24 areas nationwide were reported to be at a moderate level, and two areas recorded good readings. - September 7, 2026

ONLY the Samarahan area, Sarawak, recorded an Air Pollutant Index (API) of very unhealthy with a reading of 222, as of 7 am this morning.

Meanwhile, 40 other areas nationwide recorded an API at unhealthy levels.

According to data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, 11 areas in Sarawak, namely Sarikei, recorded an unhealthy API reading (193); Kuching (192); IPD Serian (192); Sri Aman (184); Mukah (182); Samalaju (180); Sibu (182); Bintulu (172); ILP Miri (170); Miri (166); Limbang (150).

In the Klang Valley, nine areas also recorded an unhealthy API reading of more than 100, namely Johan Setia (184); Shah Alam (166); Kuala Selangor (158); Petaling Jaya and Banting (157); Klang (156) in Selangor as well as Batu Muda (163) and Cheras (161) in Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya (163).

Three other areas in Negeri Sembilan also recorded unhealthy API readings, namely Nilai (166); Seremban (163) and Port Dickson (123).

In Melaka, the Bukit Rambai area also recorded an unhealthy API reading of 154, followed by Alor Gajah (154) and Melaka City (107).

Unhealthy API levels were also detected in three areas in Perak, namely Tanjung Malim, which recorded a reading of 160; Seri Manjung (158); Tasek, Ipoh (155); and Pegoh, Ipoh (145).

In Pahang, the affected areas were Temerloh and Jerantut, Pahang, with API readings of 153 and 152, respectively.

In Johor, Segamat recorded a reading of 157, Batu Pahat (157), Tangkak (153) and Kluang (151).

In Sabah, the Kota Kinabalu and Kimanis areas also recorded unhealthy air quality with a reading of 153.

Meanwhile, 24 areas nationwide were reported to be at a moderate level, and two areas recorded good readings.

An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 is moderate, 101 to 200 is unhealthy, 201 to 300 is very unhealthy, and an API above 300 is hazardous. – September 7, 2026
