Kelana Jaya LRT commuters face delays as Pasar Seni crowds surge

COMMUTERS on the Kelana Jaya LRT line faced delays and overcrowding this morning, with passengers reporting slow-moving trains and prolonged stops at several stations, although Rapid KL has officially confirmed congestion only at Pasar Seni station.

The operator said Pasar Seni station on the Kelana Jaya Line was experiencing an increase in passenger numbers, resulting in congestion.

Rapid KL said passenger-entry and flow controls had been implemented at affected stations to ensure commuters could move safely and smoothly.

“As such, to ensure the safety and smooth movement of passengers, entry and passenger-flow controls are currently being implemented at the affected stations,” it said.

The official update came after several commuters took to social media to report difficulties travelling on the line, including overcrowded platforms and trains.

A Threads user identified as @nibukanyon said the problems had persisted since yesterday and advised those who had yet to leave home to consider delaying their journey.

“If you are only about to leave for the LRT station, perhaps stay home for a while. The LRT has been faulty since yesterday and the problem still has not been resolved. The frequency is slow, the stations are extremely crowded. I have already given up here,” Kosmo! cited the user writing.

Another user, @addazwan, claimed the train he was travelling on made several sudden braking manoeuvres and did not stop at Asia Jaya and Taman Jaya stations before passengers were asked to disembark at Kerinchi Station.

Meanwhile, @jazz_sidhu1 claimed trains stopped for seven to eight minutes at several stations, causing delays to commuters travelling to work.

“Stopping at almost every station for seven to eight minutes is simply unreasonable, and the trains are so crowded that people waiting at the stations cannot even board. The trains are now causing delays and people are arriving late for work. This situation is extremely disappointing,” the user said.

The commuter reports have not been independently confirmed by Rapid KL, which, in its morning update, specifically cited increased passenger numbers and congestion at Pasar Seni station.
