THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has brushed aside speculation that senior UMNO leaders will be arrested after the conclusion of the 2026 UMNO General Assembly (PAU) this week.
Its Chief Commissioner, Datuk Seri Abd. Halim Aman, said that the investigation and arrest of senior UMNO leaders is not on the list of investigations received by the commission.
"Sometimes the public believes more in assumptions and speculations.
"If someone gets some news, they need to get proof from the responsible party, and if it concerns us, it should be from the MACC," he told reporters today.
Earlier, UMNO stressed that it would not obstruct the MACC's action if there was solid evidence to prosecute any party leader if he was involved in any wrongdoing.
UMNO President, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said that his party was ready to provide cooperation to the MACC to enable the prosecution process to be carried out if the investigation found that there was a solid basis to do so.
However, he stressed that any investigation, including involving senior party leaders, must be conducted fairly and transparently. – September 10, 2026
