KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today recorded its highest daily Covid-19 toll yet at 2,593 infections, bringing the national tally to 125,438.
The number of active cases in the country stands at 24,347.
The Health Ministry reported four new fatalities, as well as 1,129 recoveries.
Previously, the nation’s highest daily coronavirus tally was 2,525 cases on December 31.
Selangor once again has the most fresh cases at 966, followed by Johor (573) and Sabah (405).
Kuala Lumpur recorded 266 infections, Negri Sembilan (125), Penang (77), Kelantan (43), Kedah (42), Perak (34), Terengganu (19), Melaka (13), Pahang (11), Labuan (9), Putrajaya (9) and Sarawak (5).
Perlis continues to record zero cases.
The four deaths today were all Malaysian citizens, with two dead on arrival at hospital.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah announced 13 new clusters today.
There are three fresh clusters in Selangor – Dataran Utas, Casa Permai and Medan Jasa.
Dataran Utas and Casa Permai are workplace clusters in Petaling district, logging 66 and 109 cases, respectively.
The index case in Medan Jasa has severe acute respiratory infection, detected on December 29. Currently, there are 64 cases in this cluster.
The Tasik Utama cluster involves Seremban and Hulu Langat, with 49 infections so far.
The Firma and Jalan Padu clusters in Johor Baru, meanwhile, have 45 and 17 cases, respectively.
The Persiaran Teknologi cluster in Kulai logged 25 cases, while the Bersepadu cluster in Kota Tinggi has 21.
Other clusters are Kg Pitas in Sabah with 72 cases, Ikan Emas (35), Kayuh (11), Jalan Seputeh KL (18) and Melaka’s Anak Air (14). – The Vibes, January 6, 2021
