A BUSINESSWOMAN in Raub lost RM315,963 after she was allegedly duped into paying for 37 projectors in a fake procurement scheme involving a purported tender from the Kuala Kangsar District Education Office (PPD).
Pahang acting police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob said the 52-year-old victim, who runs a photocopying and printer-related services business, received a WhatsApp message from a man on Sept 1 claiming to represent PPD Kuala Kangsar.
“The suspect asked the victim to prepare a quotation for the supply of examination papers.
“On Sept 10, the suspect contacted the victim again and asked her to obtain two projectors for delivery to PPD Kuala Kangsar,” he said in a statement today.
As the victim’s company did not have the projectors in stock, the suspect provided a telephone number for an alleged supplier.
The victim then ordered two projectors and transferred RM18,498 to a bank account provided by the suspect.
The suspect subsequently sent photographs purportedly showing that the projectors had been received by PPD Kuala Kangsar.
Azry Akmar said the suspect contacted the victim again on Sept 11, claiming there was an additional order for 50 projectors.
“The suspect also sent a local order (LO) to convince the victim that the order was genuine and asked her to make payment for the projectors.
“The victim made several payments to an account totalling RM254,970 for 30 projectors and RM42,495 for five projectors,” he said.
After making the payments, the victim asked for the alleged supplier’s company registration documents and tax identification number (TIN), but received no response.
She later contacted the suspect and was told that the order was being processed for delivery.
However, she received no further information and was unable to contact the suspect.
The victim subsequently realised she had been scammed and lodged a police report.
Azry Akmar said the RM315,963 lost comprised the victim’s business savings.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - September 13, 2026
