A 36-YEAR-OLD woman lost more than RM41,000 after falling victim to a fake online job offer involving product reviews on the Shopee platform, police said.
Muallim district police chief Superintendent Khalid Mohamad said the victim received the job offer via WhatsApp on Sept 13 and was instructed to carry out product evaluation tasks on Shopee.
She was subsequently directed to make several money transfers and completed six transactions amounting to more than RM41,000.
Khalid said the victim realised she had likely been scammed after being asked to make a further payment of more than RM32,000, which she did not proceed with.
“The victim then lodged a police report after suspecting that she had been cheated,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code.
Khalid advised the public to be wary of online job and investment offers and to conduct proper checks before making any financial transactions. - September 17, 2026
