A 17-YEAR-OLD boy has been remanded for seven days over the alleged stabbing of his 18-year-old brother-in-law three times at a house in Taman Desa Sri Banang, Minyak Beku, in Batu Pahat early Thursday morning.
Magistrate Mustaqim Sukarno issued the remand order to allow police to complete their investigations.
The suspect, who works as an assistant at a second-hand goods shop, is believed to have been under the influence of drugs when the incident occurred at about 5am.
The victim was allegedly stabbed in the chest and back with a 14.5-centimetre-long knife, causing injuries to his back and lungs.
The alleged attack reportedly followed an argument between the victim and the suspect’s 14-year-old sister, who is the victim’s wife, at about 5pm the previous day.
The suspect, who witnessed the argument, reportedly did not intervene before returning to Rengit that night.
He allegedly went back to the victim’s house later without other family members noticing, kicked the victim while he was asleep and then stabbed him after he woke up.
Other family members were reportedly asleep and unaware of the incident.
The suspect fled after the alleged attack, while the seriously injured victim was taken to Hospital Sultanah Nora Ismail by his mother-in-law.
Police arrested the suspect at a second-hand goods shop at about 12.30pm to assist with investigations.
Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident and said the victim remained under treatment and was in stable condition.
“The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a weapon or dangerous means,” he said. - September 18, 2026
