PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has decided to prohibit the use of the navigation application Waze among all civil servants.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated that this measure is intended to protect government information and users' personal data from the threat of misuse by the Israeli regime.

It was explained that this decision takes into account the status of Waze Mobile Ltd. as a data controller, which is incorporated and operates under Israeli law.

“Sensitive government information and the personal data of citizens must be protected from being exploited by the Israeli regime in a manner that could compromise national security and sovereignty.

“At the same time, the Prime Minister urges all Malaysians to also stop using the Waze application and switch to local alternatives, such as TuJu, which offer guarantees regarding security and the protection of personal data,” the statement said today.

The PMO emphasised that the 'Madani' Government maintains a firm stance and will close any avenues that could be exploited by the Israeli regime to threaten the security of the nation and its people. – October 21, 2026
