KUALA LUMPUR – Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed’s confirmation that he tested positive for Covid-19 in Kelantan has triggered speculation regarding his recent movements after he initially tested negative for the virus on January 1. 

Since then, the 70-year-old minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Jeli MP has made numerous visits and conducted official duties until his positive diagnosis on January 9.

According to his official Facebook page, his activities include as follows:

January 1:  

- Visited the Klinik Kesihatan Presint 11, Putrajaya for the Covid-19 test (which emerged negative)

January 2:  

- Visited an aquaponics, vegetable and tilapia fish farm site at Slim, Tg Malim, Perak

January 3: 

- Working visit to Fisheries Development Authority of Malaysia’s (LKIM) Tok Bali port in Pasir Puteh, Kelantan

- Working visit to the Palekbang Bridge construction site at Kota Baru

- Met with Kelantan Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob at Kg Laut, Wakaf Baru, Kelantan, where he held a  joint press conference on the East Coast Economic Region Development Council

- Chaired a meeting with Kelantan academicians and retired civil servants in Kota Baru

January 4: 

- Visited a patient at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur

- Visited the Astro Awani studio at Bukit Kewangan, Kuala Lumpur, to speak on the Agenda Awani programme

- Briefed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah on the 12th Malaysia Plan and Economic Action Council’s achievements during an audience at the Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur

January 6:

- Attended the Cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister's Office in Putrajaya

January 7:

- Meeting with Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba in Putrajaya on official matters

January 8: 

- Participated in a monthly meeting with the staff of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU) at the Prime Minister’s Department, Putrajaya

January 9: 

- Flew to Kota Baru as part of his plans to visit flood victims at his constituency in Jeli, Kelantan

Palace officials have since confirmed that the Agong has tested negative for Covid-19 following the revelation of Mustapa’s infection. 

Mustapa has been admitted to Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital.

He is the second minister to have contracted Covid-19 after Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Seri Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri tested positive in October last year. – The Vibes, January 10, 2021
