Mum, baby girl die after car crashes into tree

KLUANG – A mother and her 5-month-old daughter were killed yesterday when the car they were travelling in crashed into a tree near a petrol station at Km 74.3 Jalan Johor Baru-Ayer Hitam in Simpang Renggam.

In a statement today, Kluang police chief Low Hang Seng said initial investigations showed that the vehicle was heading to Johor Baru from Ayer Keroh, when it crashed while trying to avoid another vehicle at about 10.40pm.

The dead have been identified as B. Nagaranjini, 25, and G. Varsha.

“The driver, B. Guna, 40, who is Nagarajini’s husband, and their son G. Trishikan, 6, who was seated in the backseat, sustained injuries and have been admitted to the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital here.”

Renggam Fire and Rescue Station chief Asyraf Nur Mohd Yusoff said the department sent five firefighters to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 10.56pm.

He said a victim was found trapped in the front seat, while a baby had been flung out of the car. – Bernama, January 15, 2021
