GEORGE TOWN – Penang health authorities are in the midst of identifying assets to be used to contain the Covid-19 pandemic, as stipulated under the emergency ordinance.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in a statement today, said the state is activating committees and working groups at every level, and identifying private resources.

“However, the identified places and assets are subject to discussion with the technical committee before being taken to the state and federal levels for further action.”

He earlier chaired a state Security Special Committee videoconference, held to revise Penang’s virus management strategy.

On the screening of foreign workers at factories and construction sites, Chow said employers have taken their own initiative to intensify mass screening based on the 3T – testing on a large scale, tracing and treatment – approach.

He said the coronavirus vaccine is expected to arrive in Penang at the end of next month, and aspects concerning logistics and vaccine administration are still being reviewed.

“More Covid-19 volunteers should be enlisted to strengthen enforcement.”

He urged all agencies and individuals to commit to the task entrusted to them, as the state has not yet won the fight against the disease. – The Vibes, January 21, 2021
