MIRI – There are now calls for tighter security on Covid-19 patients at Miri Hospital after a 33-year-old Covid-19 patient ran away while being warded there.

Miri MP Dr Teo Yu Keng said the fact that the man managed to escape from the hospital was cause for concern.

“Miri police have managed to locate the man in Batu Niah (120km south of Miri) and have arrested and brought him back to Miri Hospital.

“There is a need for the hospital to tighten security in the area where positive patients are warded.

“The area must be totally cordoned off and no one must be allowed in or out except for doctors and nurses,” he told The Vibes.

Dr Teo however said it was a challenge to beef up security at Miri hospital, given the nearly 300 Covid-19 patients there now. – The Vibes, January 26, 2021
