MIRI – PKR branches in Miri and Baram are arranging to send food aid to longhouse residents stuck in the Mulu National Park due to floods.

Miri MP Dr Teo Yu Keng, who is also Miri PKR chief, said the food aid weighs about one tonne, and comprises items such as rice, noodles, cooking oil, canned food and dry rations.

The convoy left here this morning to make the 300km journey inland.

Once it reaches Marudi town, the convoy will take jungle tracks to Long Terawan and other settlements in the Mulu National Park, said Baram PKR information chief Dennis Along.

“The people in badly affected areas, like Long Terawan and Long Panai, are in need of food supplies,” he said.

Sarawak's interior areas are experiencing heavy rain and floods, with the monsoon season expected to last until the end of next month. – The Vibes, January 29, 2021
