KUALA LUMPUR – The three-day quarantine period for ministers returning from official trips abroad can be extended if they visited high-risk countries, said the health director-general.
Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said under the new ruling, ministers still have to gain approval from the cabinet to go on official visits abroad, and the Health Ministry will assist in reviewing applications.
“If the schedule and itinerary was tight, and they went for only 24 hours to attends meetings and so on, with a doctor accompanying the delegation, we can consider the minimum (three-day quarantine period),” Dr Noor Hisham told a press conference today.
“But this (approval) is under the condition that it does not endanger (others).”
Dr Noor Hisham said the quarantine period for ministers can be extended up to 10 or 14 days if they visit high-risk countries.
“For example, if they went to South Africa, we have to see the schedule; if the bubble is tight, this can be considered. But if it is not tight and high-risk, we can extend the quarantine period.” – The Vibes, February 9, 2021
