KUALA LUMPUR – Supermax Corporation Bhd is closing its Meru facility in Klang for three days after several Covid-19 cases were detected among workers.

In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, the glove manufacturer said it is implementing a stoppage from today until Friday, with guidance from the Health Ministry.

“Supermax has been conducting Covid-19 screening on both its local and foreign workers at all of its factories periodically.

“We have adopted all possible and necessary standard operating procedures in our operations, premises, as well as hostels, including implementing social-distancing measures, temperature checks, proper hygiene, PPE (personal protective equipment) usage, regular sanitisation, restricting visits by outsiders, etc.”

It said the infections are suspected to have come from external transporters, based on preliminary findings.

“The temporary closure will go a long way towards minimising the risk of further spreading the virus within the community.

“Disinfection exercises at all our premises and workers’ accommodation will continue to be conducted regularly.”

Glovemakers have been in the spotlight over Covid-19 infections at their facilities, and some firms have been found to not meet the Workers’ Minimum Standards of Housing and Amenities Act 1990. – The Vibes, February 10, 2021
