MIRI – Another Covid-19 death in Sibu has been recorded today, on Chinese New Year eve.
Unfortunately, it is not the only sad news in Sarawak, as a fresh virus cluster has also emerged at the Nanga Lijan longhouse in Sarikei, adjacent to Sibu.
The state Disaster Management Committee secretariat in a statement said the latest fatality involves a 70-year-old man, who succumbed to the virus yesterday in Sibu Hospital.
His death has been confirmed today as being due to Covid-19.
The secretariat expressed its condolences to the victim’s family.
“With the latest fatality, the death toll (in Sarawak) now stands at 56.”
Today, 184 new positive cases were recorded statewide.
Sibu continues to record the highest number of daily cases with 57, followed by Subis (31), Kapit (24), Julau (18), Sri Aman (10), Song (nine), Kuching (six), Bintulu (six), Miri (five), while other districts recorded less than five each.
There are 16 active clusters in the state, with the latest one recorded in Sarikei, where 23 positive cases emerged at a longhouse in the district.
Health teams are currently screening more than 100 natives there.
Sibu Hospital today has 891 virus-positive patients, Miri Hospital has 388; Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching, 174; Bintulu Hospital, 164; Kapit Hospital, 174; Sarikei Hospital, 41; Limbang Hospital, three; and Lawas Hospital, one. – The Vibes, February 11, 2021
