BUKIT MERTAJAM – While it is common to hear of cars being driven against traffic on the Butterworth-Kulim Expressway, it is unheard of for a motorcyclist to do the same.

Hence, it is no surprise that when a video of it is posted on social media, it goes viral.

In the minute-long video, the perpetrator is seen on the motorcycle lane riding against the flow from Permatang Pauh to Seberang Jaya at about 6.10pm.

Police investigating the case believe the motorcycle was stolen following an earlier report of a stolen motorcycle lodged at the Prai police station yesterday.

The stolen motorcycle has since been recovered at Km8.4 of the highway.

Seberang Prai Tengah police chief Shafie Abd Samad said the video was taken by a motorist who was travelling on the opposite lane from the motorcyclist.

“No one has come forward on the matter, so we are urging members of the public and the person who shot the video to lodge a police report to assist police investigations,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless and dangerous driving, which carries a mandatory jail sentence of one day to five years and a fine between RM500 and RM15,000, if convicted. – The Vibes, February 12, 2021
